Proposed Dues Increase

Dear Fellow SCREA Members:

The Board of the Sacramento County Retired Employee’s Association (SCREA) would like to propose an increase in the monthly dues which we all pay. The Board does not receive any salary, we serve on a voluntary basis and do not take this request for an increase lightly. The costs for supplying services to our members has increased and our dues have not increased from $12 per year since the association was founded in the 1970’s.

While our dues have remained both reasonable and constant, our expenses have significantly increased. Our largest expenses include costs associated with the luncheons, printing and mailing the quarterly newsletters, and rental of a storage locker for our official documents. Since the fiscal year 2013-2014, even after taking into account a 16% increase in membership, our expenses have increased by nearly 33%. We are anticipating another increase in annual costs next year as well.

At $12 annually for retired members, only one of the twenty 1937 Act counties (tiny Imperial County) charges less in dues. The average for all counties is $29 annually. As a result, the Board is requesting an increase in dues to $2 per month ($24/year) from our members. Dues for Associate Memberships (Spouse, Domestic Partner, and Surviving Spouse) would increase to $1 per month. This proposal will be voted on, in accordance with the bylaws at the Annual Meeting, June 16, 2023 at the Dante Club.
